What is code?
In this article we will define the musical term "code". Coda is the final part of a musical work, its final section, which is not taken into account when analyzing the structure of this work.
It is also often when defining what a code is referred to such a term as “kadans” - a melodic or harmonic turn, with which either the entire work or a part of it ends. The code can be the final cadence that summarizes those musical techniques that dominated throughout the work.
To this end, the code is built in the main key of the musical work and includes its basic themes. In this case, the techniques of its creation may be different. Sizes codes also vary - from a few chords to complex advanced constructions.
The presence of codes is determined both by the personal wishes of the author of a musical work and by established traditions. So, this element became almost obligatory in sonata forms after it was first used by Mozart in his works.
